Ryan Foo (ACJC)
From F to A (GCE 'A' Level)
I have definitely benefited from it. Before I came for tuition,
I was unclear of most of my Physics concepts and some of them
were mixed up with each other, making the subject very difficult
to learn and understand. Ken really helped me to clear up all
the concepts and
simplify each topic to my capability of understanding them
through his mind/concept maps.
He takes a keen interest in his students and is very initiative
in terms of knowing whenever you are in doubt and going through
the topic until we can grasp the concept at the tip of our
fingers.
Ken's style of teaching is one that uses
more of
application rather than memory work,
making the subject much easier to understand. Instead of just
learning and memorizing equations, Ken teaches us to derive each
equation thus allowing his students to have a wider knowledge of
the subject. He also teaches us to
link topics
that are related to each other.
He emphasizes the use of
one-page-one-chapter mind/concept maps which is very effective
when studying for examinations
or just using it for reference, he also wants us tojot down
questions that we are unfamiliar with so that we would know how
to tackle it the next time we come across it.
What I found most useful from his tuition is that when
examinations draw near, he plans a certain number of mock
examinations for his students to prepare his students in both
concepts and time management. After completing the papers, he
would mark and grade them on the spot, he would then go through
and explain the questions which we answered incorrectly after a
short break (he would underline which concept the
question requires from us and then teach us the different steps
to tackle the question). Personally, I found that this was a
really good drill and I believe it was the main reason how i
achieved my 'A' for Physics in the GCE 'A' levels.

Eliza Lim (ACJC)
From D to B (GCE 'A' Level)
I do benefit from Ken's lessons, as in I understand better the
concepts the way you explain and express it than it was taught
in school. I also have fun and enjoy talking to you during
lessons!! I guess that's a benefit to me, haha. Another thing is
that besides teaching academic stuff, you also tell me things
and information outside academics, which will help me in the
future.
Your style of teaching is kind of different from the school,
maybe because you explain it more in detail and clearer than in
school as they tend to rush things in school. Delivery is
different in a sense that you encourage linking and rewriting
stuff in shortform which makes it easier for us to remember
certain facts and formulas that we need to know and memorize.
This is quite a good technique of remembering things. Your
coaching lessons are generally quite fun!
You already have a
lot of dedication to your students and always want the best for
them. |

Jonathan Chong
(ACSI,
IB Program Sec 2)
From Fail to 90
Yes, of
course I have benefited immensely. From failing Physics and
Chemistry to attaining a score of 90, what you have done is
simply polished and ultimately enhanced the way I perceive and
understand the concepts involved in the aforementioned. I have
thoroughly understood the once alien theorems and thus enabled
me to strive for greater endeavours.
The fun and
at times comical antics and mannerisms you exhibit have indeed
contributed greatly to my overall enjoyment of the subjects
involved. You teach in a very frank and robust manner, not the
stereotypical droner who stands in front of the whiteboard
babbling about electrons and Magnesium. |

Fang Junkai (Bukit View Secondary School)
From C5 to B3 - E Math (GCE 'O' Level)
From B4 to A1 - Physics (GCE 'O' Level)
Yew Kiin has been my tutor cum mentor since January 2006. He
guided me on my E Math and throughout my ‘O’ Level year. Under
Yew Kiin’s close supervision and through his warm encouragement,
I improved my E. Math from a C5 to a B3 in my 2006 ‘O’ Level
Examinations and my Combined Science (Physics) from a B4 to an
A1.
Instead of a strict teacher-student concept, Yew Kiin did a
different approach in helping me improve on my studies. He
coached me as a mutual peer with whom I can confide in and hang
out with.
Being tutored by Yew Kiin was unlike typical tuitions, where the
main focus is plainly on how to improve one’s grades. Yew Kiin
made use of some of his tutoring time to teach me valuable life
skills, in which helped me do better in my studies. Part of the
reason why my studies improved through him is that other than
tutoring, he also input knowledge into me through other means
like giving me the opportunity to undergo the personal
development workshop called ‘Turbocharge!’
Overall, it was a wonderful and self-enriching experience to
have Yew Kiin as my tutor cum mentor. Thank you Yew Kiin for
changing my perspectives
in life! |

Rachel Soh (Tanjong Katong Girls School)
From B3 to A1 - A Math (GCE 'O' Level)
From A2 to A1 - E Math (GCE 'O' Level)
Dear Yew Kiin,
Thank you very much for your help throughout the most crucial
period of my secondary school life- my Secondary 4 year. You
were a constant source of help and guidance to me and as a
result, I managed to improve my A math grade to consistently
score A1s, and to maintain my E math grade at A1 as well.
With your unwavering support as my O level examinations drew
closer, I was more confident of being able to perform well.
After securing A1s for both A and E math in my preliminary
examinations, I was able to produce the same results for O
levels. You have
certainly played a large part in helping me to achieve my
ultimate goal
so thank you for that!

Shawn Tham (ACS
Barker, ACJC)
From C6 to B3 - A Math (GCE 'O' Level)
From
B4 to A2 - E Math (GCE 'O' Level)
Yew Kiin has been guiding me in my studies for Upper Sec and has
helped me a lot especially in A Maths and E Maths in my Upper
Sec days. My A Maths improved from a C6 to a B3 for O
levels, while I got an A2 for my E Maths! During lessons,
he not only
teaches the fundamentals and concepts well but also
teaches how to apply
the concepts. Furthermore, he teaches me how to study
smart (not just hard), which is essential for doing well in the
examinations. We often have online discussions when I
face challenges in my studies as well as personal life, even
when I was in my JC! Overall,
Fantastic tutor and friend!

Ng Zhuo Wei (Bedok Town Secondary School)
From E8 to B3 - A Math (GCE 'O' Level)
From
C5 to A2 - E Math (GCE 'O' Level)
I am very grateful to Yew Kiin as he has taught me many ways of mastering the concept of Math.
He taught me how to apply the formulae and how to interpret the questions and how to formulate strategies.
It was amazing how we got along so well! I really look up to him as my mentor.
That was how I am able to achieve my results in my O levels - an A2 for my E Math and a B3 for my A Math.
During my prelims, my Math grades weren’t that fantastic, as I scored an E8 for A Math and C5 for E Math.
As you can see, my results have undergone and improved incredibly well due to his teachings and encouragement.
Now I believe I can excel in anything I do, and have taken Math as a past-time, instead of a subject.

Mr. Bob Leow,
Father of Leow Hongyi
Yew Kiin is a responsible tutor to my child, Hongyi. He taught
Hongyi mainly A Maths and Physics and guided him for his O
levels Chinese Oral Exams in June. We often communicate with
each other regarding my son's studies and I am happy that
Hongyi, who has never scored an A1 in Physics and Maths before,
got A1 for his Sec 4.
I
believe my son has benefited a lot in learning skills from him.
