reading a fellow coach’s post about homework & assignments made me think about a past incident more than 10 yrs back.
although 10+ years is not THAT long ago,
sometimes i feel that i cant remember much of my primary sch life, if any at all.
yet i will always remember this,
the threat from my mom,
that if i did not finish my tuition homework,
she will tell my father & he will beat me.
it actually did not bother me,
cos i will always finish my tuition homework.
i didnt mind doing a pile of work,
i will just sit there & happily do it.
however,
one fine day,
i was HORRIFIED to realise, when my tutor was flipping through my assessment book,
that i had forgotten a few pages of the assigned homework,
he always wrote, for eg, ‘pg 110-120′ on the front of the book.
& he wld tick the page numbers as well.
but this time,
he wrote ‘pg 45-50′, ‘pg 60-70′ instead.
& while i was doing til pg 50, & saw pg 51 un-ticked,
i SINCERELY & innocently thought i had finished my homework.
so.
that very fateful day.
my tutor told my mother,
& she told my father,
& i got a beating.
thinking back now,
i understand why my parents did what they did.
because they were not well educated & they knew the importance of homework.
they had no ability to personally guide me,
so they fully entrusted me to a tutor,
someone whom they believed cld coach me to excellence.
& whatever the tutor says is good for me, will be good for me.
& homework that must be done, MUST be done.
all i can say to advokids & isunkids,
ur parents have entrusted u to our coaches,
& ur coaches know what is best for u.
homework is good for u.
do it,
at ur own free will.

anyway. that’s me. 10++ years ago, in my kitchen.
