Today is the best day of my life!

Do you jump up from your bed and say to yourself (or even shout to the world) “Today is the best day of my life!”?

I caught myself thinking about that after TC – “Today is the best day of my life”? Or is it?

When I was exposed to this concept, I was pretty skeptical, almost in disbelief. Does this really work? How can saying this make my day (let alone saying it with conviction and zest when I wake up)?

As I noticed my own reluctance, I dug in further and realized that my skeptism stemmed from my fear to commit (and even believe) that “Today” will be THE best day of my life. In me, there’s a feeling of disjoint – so, since “Today is the best day of my life”, will my other future “Today”s turn out worse? *screams* Moreover, I have had better “Yesterdays”, so by committing to “Today” being the best day of my life, am I in denial or even short-changing myself for better “Tomorrow”s?

Just at that moment, it dawned upon me (yap, a flash of enlightenment), that hey (!), “Today” IS the best day of my life (and it’ll always be)! How is that possible? The core is really to be in the present. This is the only moment that I can make a difference to my “Tomorrow”s. It does not matter if “Tomorrow” is going to be “best-er” than “Today” as it is in the future and I cannot hold any expectations to it. The key is that “Today” or “Now”, is the best that I am living by making choices (at the present moment) that is the best I can for myself and others in the current circumstances.

I felt such a great relief! I realized that saying “Today is the best day of my life” is a commitment to remain in the present. To be mindful of what I do now with all the zest and energy I’ve got to deliver the best that I know how to, at this very moment.

As the saying goes: “Yesterday is History, Tomorrow’s a Mystery, Today is a Gift, That’s why it’s called the Present”

Is Today the best day of your life? I know mine is :)
