Last weekend, just on a whim, I decided that I really should schedule some time to practise playing guitar every day, otherwise I am never ever going to get better. So I put it on my Google Calendar. For one hour every day after I get home from work, I will practise my guitar.
The funny thing is, later on the same day that I made this commitment (I hadn’t even started practicing yet!) a friend of mine called me up and asked if I’d be interested to jam with a few other people, play some cover songs, that sort of thing. So of course I said yes!
And now I really really have to honour the commitment to practise for an hour every night, otherwise I am totally going to embarrass myself on Saturday in the studio. If it wasn’t for the phone call giving me the push I needed to practise, I think my plans would just have stayed plans, but never translated into action. It’s so spooky the way that the universe works to force you to grow!
