I was hit, bruised and battered all over last night in the TCK workshop while doing the part on gratitude with the kids.
She’s probably the first student I taught since I’ve started in Advocators/Isun, thats because I saw how she has changed in her mindset over the 3 months. To protect her privacy, lets called her … MC, for Muah Chee as I don’t wish to disclose her real name in here.
When I first started our 1st 2 lessons with her, I was a bit horrified by her attitude towards learning and I felt scared, not because of her size (jk!) but because it was very challenging to get her to focus with her firm bad habit of nua-ing (slacking and lazing around), and it just feels like I’m going to be wasting her parents’ hard earned money for her to be coming here to slack and to learn nothing at all!!
I didn’t do much with her for the 1st 2 lessons as I paced along with her stride, chatted and opened up with her. Our rapport became so strong that she would tell me everything under the sky and we just cliqued and became close friends. She knows all my bad habits like petting my stomach after each meal and claiming that it has expanded badly and how I need to work out in the gym badly, how I go haywire when I see fluffy creatures with big eyeballs and how I pick out all the smelly spices from my meals like the onions, spring onions, ginger, garlic… etc…
The subsequent lessons I had with her is still challenging but easier as I was able to get her to focus and play Separately. She will drag me to go for lunch with her after lesson if I have nothing on or if its my off day, and after her exams, she reported to me her results. Although she didn’t do as well as before, she actually highlighted her problem areas and threatened (okay….plead)me to teach her! What touches me most was the change in her learning attitude!
There was once she brought a highlighted and showed me that its actually Erasable. (Okay, so probably I’m quite kuku about all this new gadgets stuffs…) I was so impressed! I merely told her it will be like so awesome to have such a highlighter because I always tend to over highlight things and don’t get my keywords right, and I told her it would be cool to have a super bright colour as it strikes out alot. She actually got me one the next lesson. I wanted to pay her straightaway but she stopped and told me firmly,
”This is for you, a gift from me lah, no need to pay ok! you very auntie leh!”
I got her an expensive leathered planner/organizer in her favourite lime green colour for her birthday because she told me wanted a planner just like mine but my kind are all out of stock as its already past 1/4 of a year. I bought her extra papers and weekly planning papers to go along with so that she can really make full use of it.
I think being a tutor is not enough for me, I don’t want to be a tutor!! I want to ba coach! She was the one who inspired me alot with her progression and to me, she’s like my little sister, I just feel that I need to protect her and see her grow along with me.
.
She came for the TCK workshop yesterday, upon being forced by everyone of us and her parents. I bet everyone witness the tremendous growth and breakthrough from her! (: But what touhes me the most was the Dreamboarding part.
She actually wrote this
” At the age of 35, I want to buy a house for Elsie. And inside the house there must be a gym! “
She explained, “Because Elsie always complain that she gets fat everytime she eats ma! Got the Gym inside, she can go and always do her workout inside lor!”
You know, I’ll probably get diabetes soon. She was Sooooo sweet! ((: I actually teared when she wrote that down, you can probably understand why. To me, she’s more than my student, and to her, she probably feels the same way too.
Lesson learnt: Be consistently aware to go for that extra mile if you wish to be filled with abundance of indescribable of joy and satisfaction as a coach/trainer and be the best coach/trainer you can be! (:
