Taking Charge

I was having dinner with a friend recently, and I thought I saw a hall mate of mine at the next table. I was pretty bewildered, and unsure if she was the person I knew as she had grew laterally, considerably. My friend and I concluded that a trend was observed among our peers (ourselves included), that lateral growth is proportional to the maturity (ahem, age…)

“How can people just let it go?! Everyone knew that health is important, how can we just ourselves go??” Came my comment while we were on the topic.

It was then my friend replied: “you know, that’s interesting. While you think that it is the person letting it go and not taking charge of his shape, I am thinking what are the circumstances that made them like that.”
It’s really like two end of the spectrum. I believe that how one perceives the world around him tells how one behaves too (just like a mirror).

From our different interpretations on the same thing, we concluded that there are 2 extreme types of people (most people fall in the in-betweens along the spectrum)  1) People who are totally swayed by circumstances, ie, relinquish the control of their own choices to outside factors and let themselves spin up or down depending on the outside factors 2) People who take charge, ie, believe that they have full responsibility for themselves of how they want to shape their results.

I lean towards the latter. I do agree that there are certain things in life that is not in our control and yet, that doesn’t mean that we should just throw in the towel and lament that things are not to our advantage.  Instead, that’s when personal leadership arises, to put our foot down and demand ourselves to take charge.

Sometimes, Life’s outcome is really a case of “this is how I want to lead my life and this is the results I want to see” and moving bravely ahead, expecting the best yet preparing for the worst.
