We kind of know that the words we used on ourselves play a big role in shaping our thoughts/attitude/perspectives.
Now, I believe, more than words, the kind of questions we posed to ourselves, can totally flip the reality for us too.
Imagine you’re lost in the jungle. It’s getting really dark and you hear noises (rustling of the leaves, some animal chatters).
Not a very comforting scene.
So, now you’re stuck. What do you do? Will the first question in your head be : Why me?! Will I ever get out here alive? Help!!
Many times, when we get stuck in a situation, we tend to just dwell into the helplessness of the situation. However, that is never gonna get us out of the “jungle”.
Drawing parallel to the academics, a lot of times, students get stuck at a question. Instead of pushing on, the most often heard comment is “I don’t know”/”I give up”/”…*stare*…
Interestingly, the answers are often in the questions we ask. Instead of lamenting in self-pity that the questions are difficult, one can simply start asking USEFUL questions, to help guide us in the direction of the answer.
Eg, what chapter is this question from? What are the key concepts/key words to this chapter? What can I deduce from the linkage etc. If we start asking constructive questions, the answer will be revealed.
To get out of the “jungle”, we simply need to ask “How do I get out?” / “What can help me?”.
Sometimes, we ought to have a little more faith in ourselves that the answers are in us.
