As some might know, I love to play Pet Society and Restaurant City on Facebook.
I’m not considered an addict as I dont have time for that, but I play everyday while eating breakfast. (it’s my sole recreational activity, no joke)

For Restaurant City, players run their own restaurant, serve customers, decorate their restaurant, upgrade their dishes & earn coins. With more coins, you can buy more stuff for your restaurant or buy more ingredients.

Two weeks ago Restaurant City had a theme of EASTER, in which had pretty deco, wallpaper & furniture out in the stores.
Unfortunately some of the prettiest stuff could not be bought with ‘coins’ from the game. They could only be purchased using PLAYFISH CASH. In which is ‘virtual cash’ that you buy with real cash using your credit card. Even a million game ‘coins’ will not give you a single Playfish Cash.

I sat in front of the PC for half hour, just to decide if I should go ahead and purchase some Playfish Cash and get the stuff I want from the game, or resist having the great Easter furniture (afterall it’s just a game and it’s silly to spend real cash for a game).
I dont know why but it was a tough decision, I even took my calculator and calculated how much 1 Playfish Cash was in SGD. (1 Playfish Cash was approx SGD0.22)

Ultimately, I ended up purchasing 120 Playfish Cash at USD19.99. The rationale being – nothing should stop me from getting and having what I really want.

Although til now I have no regrets because I now have a beautiful restaurant, I am still digging into myself to find out what made it so hard for me to part with the cash. (yes I still have no answer :p)

That aside, I think I should share why I play Pet Society and made sure I was good at it. Many of my students have Facebook too, and they play Pet Society as well, a large number of them. Pet Society is a social networking game, so everyone can see each other’s pets and visits each other’s pets’ houses to gain coins.

Each player is only allowed 1 pet, my pet is a blue cat called Alejandro. He has a very very nice house, and is very very rich, both in coins and in Paw Points (levels). In class, my students always ask me, ‘wow teacher, why are you so rich in Pet Society??? You know you’re ranked Number 1 in my friends list???’

And I will share with them that I am ‘rich’ because I use STRATEGY, not because I am an addict and play for 8 hours a day. Strategy means finding out what are the best ways to earn good ‘money’ and do it, rather than playing aimlessly and ‘getting by’. Afterall, Life is a GAME too, be your best!
