Yesterday, I caught Imagine That with one of the students.
My takeback was the last words the successful business man told Eddie Murphy.
It was something like “I like people who can make decision under pressure”
Maybe these words doesnt make sense to you, let me give you some background info.
The story goes like the firm Eddie works in will be sold to a 3rd party. One of the condition is that the new boss will retain either Eddie or his colleague aka competitor.
They were given a task to assess a portfolio.
On that very important morning whereby he needs to present his report, his daughter is performing in a school concert for the very first time. She has no confident in performing and really hopes the dad can attend.
Eddie is torn between the 2. Initially he decided to attend the presentation which is going to determine his success in career (not forgetting it is a super rare chance presented).
When it was his turn to present, he struggled for a moment and decided to leave the room and give up the rare opportunity to attend his daughter’s concert.
After the concert, the successful business man came to the school and talk to Eddie.
He asked him “do you know how many people have done that to me before? Only 2. Today they are the head of 2 of my most important departments. I do not need bootlickers.”
Following, the businessman wanted to sit down and discuss the report with Eddie on the spot.
Yet he said I’m sorry, not today, its Saturday.
The businessman was kinda surprised at his attitude at first but at the same time he respects this man and has no good reason to reject him. So he offered to meet him on Monday instead.
Lessons learnt:
(1) Kinship beats everything. Do not be blinded by the tangible stuffs (e.g. money/career)
(2) The ability to make decision under pressure is a GIFT. (I’m still learning)

On a separate note I just want to bring this up.
I’m a movie buff. I will watch at least a movie every week as a leisure activity.
Be it at the theatre or at home. People often tell me this “you crazy woman. watching movie is such a waste of time.”
Personally, I enjoy sitting down and watch a story unfold.
Secondly, I beg to differ that its a waste of time. Coz we only have ONE life. There is only this much I can experience. Yet everytime we watch a movie, we are going through phases of other’s life. Be it a real or fictional story. There is always something for me to learn. Especially from other’s mistakes and failure.
I think this is good and serving me well. As I grow older, I have less and less regret in life.
I learnt to express my feelings, realize my dreams and balance up my life in all aspects.
Others comment that I’m a vegetarian, I dunno what Im missing out. I work so hard everyday, I have no life.
Yes, it is important to know how to live life and I’m sure and proud to say I’m living it!!! =)
I’m experiencing living life to the fullest!!! ^^
What about you students? Work hard now and Play hard after your exam. Enjoy the fruits of your labour later.
