I was coaching a student one day when she spoke of this softly, possibly under her breathe as she works on the question.
I am sure most people wished for that at one point in their life. Who doesn’t face challenges in their daily encounters? Who doesn’t have frustrations when met with obstacles that prevent them from having less pain? And in moments as such, it’s not surprising to dish a self consolation - ”I wish that life is easier”.
Now, when was the recent time that you felt an adrenaline rush: 1) when you manage to finally solve that one challenging question that you had been plodding through for an hour or 2) a standard 1+1=2 question? It’s often the challenges that we overcome by stretching our threshold that give us the most satisfaction.
If life is easier, possibly it is going to be pretty plain and boring. So, instead of wishing for life to be easier, let’s wish for more capacity and wisdom to ease through life. The fun is in the growing.
Wishing for life to be easier is stagnating. Wishing for more strength, courage and wisdom to ease through life is growth.
