Believing in what you do

Those among you who follow my personal Facebook feed as well as the company’s Twitter feed will probably have noticed that I am nuts about the TV show Glee, and their theme song in particular. The song title is “Don’t Stop Believing”, and I have begun to see that Belief is going to be a very strong theme in my life this year.

When I was doing my preview, I introduced the AdvoCoaching philosophy to the parents. First line of our philosophy is that we believe all students have equal potential. I took great pains to impress upon the parents that this is something the company as a whole, and each individual in particular, believes in. When I started to share how strongly I believed this myself, I could see that some parents were really very touched.

Actually that is all the parents are looking for. Of course some have other concerns, such as “how good are your results” and “how much is your price”, but ultimately if you can convince them that you see the same potential in their kids that they do, you will have made the impression that other centres out there cannot. After seeing how their children have been “looked down” upon by teachers, peers and tutors, these parents just want to find someone who believes that their children are still able to turn failure into success.

I have started to share very passionately with my current students as well, especially those who attended TurboCharge, about the power of their beliefs. They are starting to understand more about limiting versus empowering beliefs, and why the first step towards seeing A1 results is to believe that they can be an A1 student. Reading Anthony Robbin’s book “Unlimited Power” also gave me more clarity on how to explain beliefs to people, which helps because while I tend to use very cheem language myself, I have to make it simple and understandable for other people to grasp it quickly. Cheem language can sometimes be a barrier to communication. :D

And now the final question is, what do I believe for this year? It occurred to me that I have 2 10k dreams this year: To run 10k and to earn $10k. How interesting that this should occur in 2010!
