Articulation

I had an impromptu speech this week which I was required to talk for 5 minutes non-stop. I chose Japanese languange, a topic which I thought I could elaborate on, but I barely managed 3 minutes. In the end, I was the worst speaker but that didn’t come as a surprise to me.

I am not as articulate as I want to be although I hope to be a better speaker. I’m very glad that as a teacher I do not need to give engaging speeches but boring lectures and I thank god that I will be imparting knowledge only and not sharing my life or experiences.

There are no “worst speakers”, Jeanne.

There are only improvements and better speakers!
As a coach, we do not need to give speeches for sure but we HAVE to engage our students towards our teachings (:

As coaches (NOT teachers/tutors), we do not just teach from text books and knowledge. Instead, we add on this extra touch of teachings called the lifeskills. Thats where our values will come to shine! You do not have to share very in depth about yourself to your kids but you will have to connect more towards them and build stronger rapport so that they will look up to you with this power labelling, “Coach.”

I enjoy your sharing about Japanese! Its very interesting to know that you learn Jap by yourself through animes, which is INCREDIBLE! I’ve always wanted to master Jap and learn more about their culture. Perhaps you could share more with me next time (: LOL. Lunch time! ((:

See you soon and we’ll catch up more! ^^

How about seeing yourself as a teacher for life?
Its amazing to be able to impact others’ lives through your personal experiences and going beyond just academic.
Many atimes when we look back at the teachers in our lives, it is usually those who made a difference to us rather than those who are knowledgeable or able to deliver that we remember.
How would you like your students to remember you 10 yrs down the road? =)

if u always expect urself to be the worst speaker, then u WILL be the worst speaker, & forever!
2 mths ago i had a presentation (SOLO summore) to make for a module, for 20+ students & 1 lecturer. & before it, i came a little earlier to get ready the mindset & right energy, & told myself, hey how about letting this be a great presentation?
& yes! it turned out to be great & i thanked myself for giving myself the opportunity.

    anyway.
a good coach plays the roles of a teacher, a mentor, a friend & an expert. i dont think students only want to hear frm an expert, there’re so many experts around!
    be someone different!

No one is born to be a fantastic speaker! When I first spoke on stage, as an Emcee to a event, I cocked up! Keep your goal to be a good speaker and look for opportunities to speak. Practice makes better really!
