See how quickly you can complete the little quiz below!
- How well do you know your chemical symbols and formulae? For example, which one of these is barium: Ba or Br? Is “Ir” the symbol for iron?
- Are the cations and anions already at your fingertips, or are you still unsure what they are? What’s the difference between chlorine and chloride, or a hydrogen atom and a hydrogen ion?
- How easily can you write and balance an equation? Does it take you a long time to get it right?
Building a strong foundation in any subject is the first step towards excellence. In Chemistry, the foundation consists of mastery in the language of ions, compounds, chemical formulae and chemical equations. Without knowing this basic vocabulary, you will be at a disadvantage as the class progresses into higher-level concepts that use this terminology extensively.
Our 2-day “Master the Language of Chemistry” workshop is specifically designed to impart this fundamental knowledge to students in an interactive and enjoyable way. In the workshop, students will participate in games and other activities that engage them fully in the learning process. Furthermore, we emphasize learning a skill that can be applied dynamically in the future, rather than imbibing static knowledge by memorization.
We place emphasis on accuracy as a goal of this workshop, meaning that the students will complete our workshop with the correct knowledge at their fingertips. This will enable them to build up speed later on, when it comes to writing and balancing equations. When you are slow and accurate, you can get faster, but it’s much more difficult to get correct if you are fast and inaccurate.
Master the foundations today, to build excellence tomorrow!
Workshop dates: 28th and 29th November 2009
Time: 1pm - 5pm
Venue: AdvoWorld, 175B Thomson Road, Goldhill Centre, Singapore 3076224
Registration fee: $350
Contact number: 6251 3359 or SMS to 8233 2753

I drank 500cm3 of Ice Lemon Tea. The concentration of citric acid in ILT is 0.05 mol/dm3. Assuming citric acid is monobasic and fully dissociates, how many H+ ions did I drink?

First ever tweet! How much air do you need to react with 10cm3 of hydrogen to form water? It’s really a trick question.
